September 2015 Contra Costa Wine Group Newsletter
Our last meeting was our annual “outing” for the CCWG. Member Gerard Davidson arranged a wonderful afternoon for us out at the Fenestra Winery in
Livermore. It was a beautiful day under the trees enjoying lots of fine wines, both member wines and
many of the great Fenestra wines. Gerard arranged for us to get a 30% discount on purchased wines and many of those in
attendance took advantage of the situation. Gerard told me later that it looked like those in attendance purchased around 70 bottles of
wine during the day. There were right around 40 people in attendance and the hors d’oeuvres and desserts
complimented the wines just fine. A good time was had by all, I’m sure.
It’s time again to remind everyone that the CCWG 2015-2016 Annual Dues are now due and
payable. If you’re coming to the meeting on the 25th
(more later) please bring a check with you made out to “CCWG” for
$65.00. If you cannot attend and still need to pay up, please snail mail your check to our Treasurer,
Mr. Lee Wines, 1105 West K St., Benicia, CA 94510.
On October 1st, those who haven’t paid yet will be placed on the CCWG Waiting
List. There are currently 4 people/couples wanting to join our little band of great
winemakers. I think that being named the 2015 WineMaker Magazine Club of the Year might have just had a
little bit to do with that. Bottom line, you need to get your checks (no cash please) in so that we can compile our
annual one-time/one list of current members off to those nice folks in Manchester Center,
Our next meeting will be held at the home of Mary Jo Gordon and Pat Dowd in
Alamo. Our speaker for the evening will be CCWG Member, Mr. Michael Parker of
Brentwood. He’ll be talking to us about a variety of subjects including grape availability, local
vineyards that sell to home winemakers, how to become a Wine Grape Broker, and just about anything else that
suits Michael on that evening. I’m quite sure that it will be very enjoyable and I would encourage everyone to take a break
from their grapes for an evening and come to the September meeting.
The meeting will be held on Friday night, September 25th starting at around 7:00 p.m. Things to bring: 1) A folding chair; 2) a light jacket as the meeting will likely be held outdoors; 3) a
bottle of your best wine or an eclectic selection you think the membership might enjoy if you haven’t made
any wine yet; 4) a wine glass.
DIRECTIONS: Probably the easiest directions that I’ve ever given. The Gordon/Dowd household is located at
505 Justin Morgan Drive in Alamo. From Highway 680 from either direction, take the Stone Valley Road exit and head
East. About 1.2 miles from the freeway, turn right on Justin Morgan Drive. The Gordon/Dowd home is the first home on the left after the security
gate. Mary Jo will try to insure
that the gate is opened for members from about 6:30 p.m. until around 8:30 p.m. If she can’t get that accomplished, I will send out another email giving you the Security
Code. Again, Friday, September 25, 2015 starting at around 7:00 p.m. Should you have any difficulties, call Mary Jo at 925-984-4337 or Pat at
I hope to see LOTS of you there. Your grapes can survive an evening away, Come enjoy!
