May 2018 Contra Costa Wine Group Newsletter

Our last meeting was held at the home of Steve and Joyce Mirabito in Lafayette.  Steve cranked out a bunch of thin crust wood oven roasted pizzas that were wonderful.  Joyce also laid out a wonderful repast for those attending.  Our thanks go out to the Mirabitos for their hospitality and a wonderful evening.

David Buchanan, Alan Kramer and Bonneau Dickson prepared a PowerPoint presentation on the history of wine bottles, cleaning and recycling bottles and the like.  We had to wait for darkness to set in before we could begin the show.  There was plenty of wine and food though, so that really wasn’t a problem.  A lot of valuable information was dispensed by this trio and everyone enjoyed their presentations very much.  There were around 45 people in attendance at this meeting, a very nice turnout.  At the end of the presentation, David Buchanan offered up free Antique Green Bordeaux Magnums for anyone that wanted one.  A very nice touch.

Our next meeting will be held on Friday night, May 25, 2018, starting at around 7:00 p.m.  It will be held at the home of Bob and Darla Becker in Pleasant Hill.  The speaker for the evening is TBD.  I’m expecting our ad hoc Program Committee to have met and come up with a speaker and/or subject to discuss.  I’m also hopeful that lots of CCWG members that attended the WineMaker Magazine Conference in San Diego will come to this meeting and pass on to us what they learned at that conference.  We’ll know by this meeting whether the CCWG was able to hit a “Grand Slam” (4 years in a row) on WineMaker Magazine’s (International) Club of the Year or not and hear whether Publisher, Brad Ring, actually considered adding the “International” to the title or not.  (I kind of doubt it.  I’m just rocking his boat/pulling his chain.)
