March 2014 Contra Costa Wine Group Newsletter

Our last meeting was held on Friday night, February 28th and was extremely successful.  There were right around 55 people in attendance for the pouring of nine of the red wine category winners.  The table was filled with a nice selection of hors d’oeuvres that members brought to the event.  Ribbons for our January 25th judging winners were handed out and the judge’s notes were also available to everyone that had entered a wine.   The nine category winners all did a great job in preparing their handouts and pouring two bottles of their wine while giving their short presentations.  We even took a 10 minute break in the middle of the presentations and everyone “behaved” themselves by getting back into their seats promptly.

I appreciated all of the setup and tear down help that I was given for the event.  It went quite smoothly and because everyone dug in, we did avoid the additional $125.00 cleaning fee for the event.

At our next event on Friday night, March 28th, the Merlot category winner, the three White Wine category winners and the Dessert Wine winner will be pouring their wines for all in attendance.  The meeting will again be held at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 1924 Trinity Ave. in Walnut Creek.

The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. with the start of the pouring of the First Place wines occurring at around 7:30 p.m.  As there is no actual “Host” or “Hostess” for this meeting, the attendees are all being asked to bring along a small Saran wrapped paper plate of hors d’oeuvres for all to enjoy.  If you would please bring a bottle of your best for that table plus a wine glass for sampling those winning wines.

The remaining judge’s notes will be available and any ribbons that were missed at the last meeting.  If you happen to have any of the “temporary” ribbons from January 25th, please bring them along for future use.

DIRECTIONS:        From Northern Highway 680, take the North Main St. exit, #47 toward Walnut Creek.  Take the North Main St. SOUTH ramp.  Merge onto North Main St. and go about 0.4 miles.  Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto North California Blvd. and go about 0.6 miles.  Turn RIGHT onto TRINITY AVE. for 0.2 miles and the large parking lot will be on your left.

From Southern Highway 680, take the OLYMPIC BLVD. exit, #45B and turn right onto Olympic Blvd.  After about 0.4 miles, turn left onto SOUTH CALIFORNIA BLVD.  After about 0.2 miles turn left onto TRINITY AVE. for 0.2 miles and the large parking lot will be on the left.

Short and sweet this month.  I hope that you can make it to what I’m sure will be a great meeting.  I hope to see many of you there.  You’ll also save the CCWG a lot of mailing money by showing up.  The mailing of the judge’s notes and remaining ribbons in those large envelopes is quite expensive.  Again, the meeting will be 7:00 p.m. on Friday night, March 28, 2014.  Thank you all.

Respectfully submitted, Al Turner, Secretary, Contra Costa Wine Group (925) 837-9384
