April 2014 Contra Costa Wine Group Newsletter

Our last meeting was held Friday, March 28, 2014 at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.  There were right around 35 people in attendance.  We were there to taste one more Red Wine winner, all of the White Wine winners and then the Fruit/Dessert Wine winner.  Due to the venue, people were asked to bring hors d’oeuvres along to the meeting.  That worked out extremely well as there were plenty of them to go around.

The premise of the winners in each category pouring their wines and preparing a single page handout on how they made their wines once again proved to be a very good approach.  All of the winners were well prepared, had sufficient copies of their handouts, and made great presentations on their winning wines.  Thank you to all of the winners from the January Professional Judging for not letting their group down.

The next meeting will be, Friday night, April 25th from about 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. or so at the home of Steve and Joyce Mirabito in Lafayette.  Try and carpool as I understand that parking is at a premium.  You will be asked to park below their home and you’ll be driven up the hill in the Mirabito 8 passenger van.

As of this moment, our speaker for the evening has “bailed.”  We “may” end up with someone to speak on something, but is unsure.  Plan, therefore, on this being a “Social Evening” for the Contra Costa Wine Group.  If a speaker “happens” to show up, then so much the better.

DIRECTIONS: From I 680 both North and the South, take Highway 24 West toward Oakland.  Take the very first exit, the Pleasant Hill Rd. exit (#14) North.  After about 0.7 miles, turn left at the 3rd Stop Light onto Reliez Valley Rd.  Go through the 2nd Stop Sign about 1/8 of a mile and turn left onto Shangri La Rd.  The Mirabito home is located at 3432 Shangri La Rd., Lafayette.  Their telephone in case you get lost is: (925) 988-0255.

Be sure to bring a jacket, a wine glass, a folding chair and a bottle of your best wine, or a commercial one that the group might enjoy, for the hors d’oeuvres table.   Again, Friday night, April 25thfrom about 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.or so.  Please attend and get to know your fellow CCWG members a little better and compare notes on your home winemaking efforts.

I will be unable to attend this meeting as my eldest son is getting married the next day in Sacramento.  There are lots of preparations that need to be made for this great event.
